WGCU Public Media
WGCU Public Media is Southwest Florida’s source for PBS and NPR, and a member-supported service of Florida Gulf Coast University. Serving all or part of 12 counties in south and Southwest Florida, WGCU’s mission is to inspire, inform, educate, engage and entertain through the power of public media.
WGCU is proud to have been selected for Sesame Street in Communities Public Media Champions project. Together with our partners, the Guadalupe Center, Child Care of Southwest Florida and the Children’s Network of Southwest Florida we will provide training and support to our region’s rural early childhood educators, child care providers and families. We will engage staff and families with Sesame Street in Communities’ resources on topics such as health emergencies, resilience, literacy and learning through play.
“Our teachers focus on preparing children academically, socially, behaviorally and emotionally for the future, but we also want to empower parents to excel at work and advance their education,” said Chris Hansen, CEO of Child Care of Southwest Florida. “We’re excited to participate in the Sesame Street in Communities program because it, too, recognizes the importance of a strong school-home connection in a child’s overall development.”
“We look forward to the opportunity to build on our engagement with what has been a chronically underserved and disadvantaged population within the larger community and cement a deeper and ongoing relationship with our partner organizations,” said Rick Johnson, WGCU General Manager.
