KTOO is the non-profit Juneau-based corporation that provides a variety of telecommunications services to Juneau and statewide Alaska audiences. We own and operate three public radio stations, one robust news website, and a full-time cable and satellite television channel, KTOO 360TV. The SSIC initiative gives us the opportunity to better connect with families and providers, and to provide a rare chance to connect our viewers to the statewide PBS service provided by Alaska Public Media. Although Southeast Alaska is geographically the size of New England, only 75,000 people live here. They are scattered among two dozen predominately rural communities without highway connections between towns, or from Southeast Alaska to the mainland, so travel in the region is challenging. The accessibility of the virtual SSIC trainings give us the ability to reach these remote towns more easily than ever before. We are partnering with the Southeast Alaska Association for the Education of Young Children (SEA-AEYC). SEA-AEYC is the fiscal sponsor for the Juneau Partnerships for Families and Children early childhood coalition, many of which provide regional services. All 16 partner organizations will be invited to participate in the SSIC trainings.
