For the second year in a row, the Transylvania County Kindergarten Readiness Rally was not an in-person event due to COVID-19. The Readiness Rally planning committee, which consists of partners from Smart Start of Transylvania County, Western Carolina Community Action, The Family Place, and Transylvania County Schools, worked to make the 2021 Readiness Rally a celebratory week of information sharing regarding kindergarten registration and readiness. Various articles, information-rich websites, videos and more were ‘shared’ throughout the week to create and sustain excitement on behalf of the incoming class of 2034. In partnership with GetSet Transylvania, a kindergarten readiness toolkit was also produced for families chock full of important information and fun family activities.
The Readiness Rally was held amid with the the Week of the Young Child, which is a week celebrating early learning, young children, their teachers, families, and communities—it was a perfect fit for timing! The GetSet Transylvania Kindergarten Readiness and Transition toolkits were full of Sesame Street in Communities resources centered on school readiness, learning through routines, and useful tools about getting ready to take on the coming school year.
The rally is an opportunity for children entering kindergarten in the coming fall to participate in getting registered for kindergarten, learn about what will be expected of them at school, while parents learn about resources to make sure their child is kinder-ready available from GetSet’s various collaborative partners.
The many partnerships that made the Kindergarten Readiness Rally possible are rooted in the shared, dedicated goal of seeing our local children thrive as they begin their educational journey. Kindergarten, here we we come!
