Throughout the year, Sesame Street in Communities workshops are offered to families enrolled in Guilford Child Development’s Head Start/ Early Head Start program. Each 3-hour session begins with participants singing the Sesame Street theme song and sharing some of their favorable Sesame Street memories: learning the alphabet, singing fun songs, having a favorite character, counting, and discovering activities and ideas to get along and make friends.
As each workshop unfolds, we learn through discussion what topics best address the families’ respective needs. Families attending Sesame Street in Communities workshops receive free child care, transportation, a light lunch, and door prizes. Guilford Child Development Head Start/Early Head Start Family Advocates are on site to provide technical assistance as needed and to learn the topics families are interested in.
Families leave each workshop with a variety of free Sesame Street in Communities resources to use with their children, and knowledge to navigate the Sesame Street in Communities website. The Sesame Street in Communities experience teaches participants how to maximize quality family time and equips them with activities to grow smarter, stronger and kinder children. Our next training session will be held in August.
