Partner Spotlight: Crittenton

May 3, 2019

It would take Count von Count over 120 glorious numbers to get to the total years Crittenton has been serving the Kansas City community. Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City’s Crittenton Children’s Center is the region’s premier psychiatric care provider for children, adolescents, and their families.

Since the early stages of SSIC, Crittenton has been an integral and foundational partner in Kansas City. Their work with children and families is founded in ground breaking medical science, but their specialized care and support for the community comes from their open minds and generous hearts.

And Crittenton, quite literally, rocks it! Since 2017, Crittenton has hosted Rock It!, a free, fun, event for kids and families to build stronger relationships and learn helpful ways to handle today’s challenges. Over 2,000 people from all corners of the Kansas City community gathered at the iconic Union Station to enjoy a day of live entertainment and music, SSIC themed resources and story areas, and dozens of family friendly activities–all curated and staffed by Crittenton and its volunteers.

When asked about her favorite Rock It! moment, Crittenton Program Director Wanda Taylor said, “Our first year, we had hideous bright orange shirts. After the event, a boy saw me in his neighborhood and said to his mom, “Look mommy, it’s Rock It! Lady!”

When asked about his favorite Rock it! moment, Elmo responded, “Elmo loves all Elmo’s new friends in Kansas City. Elmo also loves Rock It! Lady and her pretty orange shirt!”
