Sesame Street in Communities

Partner Spotlight: Arizona Department of Health Services

October 6, 2020

The Arizona Department of Health Services promotes and protects the health of Arizona’s children and adults.  They strive to set the standard for personal and community health through direct care, science, public policy, and leadership.  The department operates programs in the following areas:

  • Disease Prevention and control
  • Health promotion
  • Community public health
  • Environmental health
  • Maternal and child health
  • Emergency preparedness
  • Regulation of childcare centers, assisted living centers, nursing homes, hospitals, and other health care providers, and emergency services

The Arizona Department of Health Services is thrilled to partner with Sesame Street in Communities to bring these special educational supports to our Health Start and Empower programs located in Maricopa County.  The endearing touch and powerful reach of Sesame Street will help parents, child care providers, home visitors, and families navigate the additional stressors of the pandemic and impacts experienced by children and families affected by substance use disorder.

Arizona Department of Health Services is embedding and integrating SSIC into the Arizona community to further support the well-being of young children and their families, particularly those who have had traumatic experiences such as parental addition by:

Awareness: Participating in the development of key messages for social media and marketing key awareness activities related to a virtual launch event.

Professional Development: Training staff, family childcare providers, home-visiting and front-line staff on SSIC.

Research & Development: Participate in research to inform a best practice toolkit on integration of SSIC resources.

Programming: Introduce the larger Arizona community to SSIC through various programmatic activities.
