Sesame Street in Communities

ISIP on Sesame Street

September 24, 2019

Lalalala…lalalala Elmo’s World!” From all over the world-from all walks of life, little children relish in the aforementioned lyrics to one of the oldest, yet infamous lyrics to one of several Sesame Street songs. Through The Teacher Excellence Program at Porter-Leath in Memphis, TN, this enjoyment is also shared with other important stakeholders such as administrators, teachers, assistant teachers, and families through trainings on Sesame Street’s educational portal, “https://SesameStreetInCommunities.org.”

Instructional Coach, Dr. Ka’Wanda Bell, is seen below training a group of Ameri-corps members on the literacy components of IStation’s ISIP assessment, which is one of the various tools used in preparing Pre-K scholars to become Kindergarten ready by the end of the school year.  Through Sesame Street in Communities, she has embedded videos and activities to aid in the development of successful outcomes as it relates to letter recognition, letter sounds, and vocabulary building.  Dr. Bell’s participants were not only shown “how to get to Sesame Street,” but they are now aware of various literary resources that can all be found in our childhood’s neighborhood—Sesame Street!
