Parenting is hard work! Being a parent and an essential worker (or a family member of an essential worker) during a pandemic can feel even more challenging. Caring for everyone and yourself is a tough balance to strike. You may feel worried or tired (or both). But you are capable, and there are things you can do to recharge your “super powers” and keep a positive outlook.
Daniel is an EMT on Sesame Street. In this video he talks about his feelings, and shares a few things that help him keep going. Watch this video with other adults and notice his strategies.
After watching, take a moment to consider ways you might find a moment of encouragement and calm:
- Charge up. Just like Daniel, envision yourself as a superhero. Which super powers do you need to charge up on daily to care for others, your family, and yourself?
- Breathe deep. Close your eyes and take a few slow, deep breaths. As you breathe, think of some people you were able to help today.
- Give thanks. Practicing gratitude can help us all keep a positive outlook. Each day, try jotting down three things you’re thankful for.
