Spanish Word of the Day: Familia

Rosita explains the word “familia” with her extended-family members.

Watch the video together with children. Who are the different people Rosita introduces? Talk about the members of your extended family (grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and so on). Who lives nearby? Who lives far away? No matter the distance, there are easy ways to engage and stay close:

  • Use photos to help kids remember the names of family members they see rarely.
  • Share memories of favorite experiences you have had with relatives.
  • Create birthday cards or love notes to send.
  • Include relatives in your nightly routine with loving thoughts and words such as “Grandma loves you, Uncle Felix loves you…” or “Let’s blow Aunt Jasmin a kiss that will fly all the way across the country.”
