The Big Idea: We reach out and hold hands to stick together, stay safe, show our love, and help. In difficult times, using our hands can remind us that we’re never alone.
Hooray for Hands

- After watching the video with children, trace children’s hands on blank sheets of paper. Help them write their names in the middle (or write them for them).
- Together, remember the ways the Sesame Street friends use their hands to show kindness: they clap to show appreciation, pat someone on the back, hold hands to stay safe, make gifts, and so on. How many more can you think of together?
- On each finger, write one idea, then color in and decorate your hands. Display children’s work.
- Together, use your real hands to high-five each other and then, using both of your hands, create the heart shape that Rosita makes at the end of the video. Remind children that, though they may be small, they hold in their hands the power to create a kinder future.
