Talking About Brain-Related Injuries
Brain injuries can be best explained by the changes in behavior that they might cause.
In this video, Rosa explains to Rosita that Papi’s brain has an injury, and Rosita struggles with how that affects Papi’s ability to participate in her dance recital. After watching the video:
- Ask children, “How does Papi’s brain injury affect him?” Talk about how some injuries are inside and can affect what we can do or not do at times.
- Rosita also expresses a lot of big feelings. Encourage children to share similar experiences and use their feeling words to describe how they felt.
- Remind them that Rosita’s mom found a solution by stepping in. How have other people in their family stepped in to help? Those people are part of their circle of care.
