When Kids Miss the Other Parent

Use this drawing activity to help children feel closer to a parent they may be missing.

  1. Print two copies of this page. Talk together about what it means to miss someone, and how it’s normal to feel sad when you miss someone.
  1. Ask children to draw a picture of each parent, including themselves if they like. Each parent might also contribute to the portrait in some way, by signing it, spraying perfume or cologne on it, or just kissing it!
  1. Explain that kids can keep a portrait at each home: the portrait of Mommy at Daddy’s home, and the portrait or Daddy at Mommy’s home. This way, when they miss the other parent, they’ll have a reminder of them right there.
