Math Development Chart

Use this chart to plan curriculum and share stages of math development with families.

Use this chart to plan curriculum and set appropriate goals and expectations. If you work with a mixed-age group, you might use this framework to think about ways to modify and extend activities for each age (for instance, when planning an activity that involves counting objects, provide a 3-year-old with 5 objects and a 4-year-old with 10).

If parents ask you about their kids’ math development, you might reference this chart, with the reminder that these are just general guidelines. As with all areas of learning, kids grow at different paces!
